Gear Ratios Chart
If you are considering changing your gearing, its handy to know how much difference it will make. Below is a gear ratio chart which ranges in all BMX, Road and Mountain sizes.

Instructions.
The result number represents the Ratio of the gearing.

1. Find your current gear combination eg. 25t front, 9t rear = 2.75.
2. Find your the gear ratio you were considering using eg. 25t front, 8t rear = 3.25
3. Calculate the percentage increase by dividing the desired ratio by your current ratio, Then multiplying by 100, then subtracting 100.
eg
3.25 ÷ 2.75 = 1.18
1.18 x 100 = 118
118 - 100 = 18

Your result is the differance in %. If this number is a positive its a harder gear.

Conclusion - Switching to a 8t sprocket on the rear will mean the gearing is 18% harder (higher top speed).
