As far as compact flashing lights go, the Exposure Flash and Flare combo might be the best damn option on the planet. One might wonder how the humble flashing safety light can really be improved. Exposure did and so they came up with the Flash and Flare. The Flash is a white LED front light while the Flare is it’s red LED rear light companion.

I purchased the first set that came into FTR and am thoroughly impressed. These are two well thought out little lights. The features I’ll discuss are common to both the Flash and Flare, so the following applies to both. Turn the head counter-clockwise with the light facing away from you and the light turns on. The light remembers the setting it was last used on, and will turn on with this setting. To change the setting, turn the head clockwise to turn the light off, then quickly turn the head counter-clockwise again and the light will power up in the other setting. Turn it one way to switch it on, the other to switch it off and switch it off then on again quickly to change between flashing mode and constant. Simple, easy and rather intuitive.

The combo is sold with rechargeable Lithium Ion batteries (RCR123A) and come with a charger. With these rechargeable batteries, the Flash will put out 110 Lumens from it’s Cree XPG diode. The Flare dishes out 75 Lumens from its Seoul P4 emitter and might be the brightest dedicated red light on the market.

The other feature I like is the mounting system. The lights themselves snap snugly into place on a mount that’s attached via a custom O-ring with a nice pull tab. You’ll probably only remove the light from the mount to charge the battery, but the quality O-ring system makes these lights easy to mount, easy to remove and easy to put just about anywhere. Once in place, they’ve stayed in place to.

Both light bodies are made from CNC machined alloy with an anodised black finish. The lens system used ensures visibility from a wide range of angles thanks to a section that diffuses some of the light and the internals are O-ring sealed so they’ll survive rain with no worries. After all, Exposure lights are built in the UK so lights that don’t enjoy foul weather are useless.

Jack the Lad, the Flash packs a punch to get you noticed day and night. It's also bright enough to see your way home when you get caught out and small enough to hide in your pocket. It's fully sealed and easy to use, simply rotate the head to turn on and off. The Flash can be bought with the Spark Charger Pack to have a fully rechargeable system. The Flash can use either disposable or rechargeable batteries, the best performance will be from using Exposure Lights' own batteries. The Flash will produce 40 lumens output with disposable CR123A battery, or 110 lumens output with our rechargeable RCR123A battery. The no compromise commute or get home light.
