Featuring the same all new sealed cartridge and needle bearing system as the Eggbeater 11, Candy 11 and Candy 3, the Eggbeater 3 ups the ante in the durability stakes, and the stainless steel body, wings and spring keep things light, strong and affordable. A big thing to mention about the body, is its two piece design. The two pieces thread together, creating an air and water tight seal which means service intervals are drastically increased. The forged chromoly steel axle also means that unlike the uber Eggbeater 11, there’s no rider weight limit on these little guys and it’s 150% stronger than the previous generation’s steel axle. The cage-less design offers the ultimate in mud clearing ability and keeps the weight way down, under 280g for the pair. That’s 70g lighter than Shimano’s equivalent XT pedal!
As with all Crankbrothers clipless pedals, the Eggbeater 3 features 6 degrees of lateral float and the included brass cleats are asymmetric. Depending on which cleat you put on which foot (and they’re marked for easy identification), you’ll get a release angle of either 15 degrees or 20 degrees.
