The Niner Jet 9 RDO is one of the most striking frames of recent times. What some may find surprising though, is that every curve, every tube shape and diameter is there for an exact reason. Niner spent a long time working through Finite Element Analysis testing and data to determine exactly what was needed to make the frame they wanted. Then after all this development work, they set about building, testing and riding prototype after prototype until they arrived at the frame available today.
Make no mistake, this is an all out cross country weapon, but the bigger wheels allow it to handle rougher terrain like a longer travelled 26” bike. Niner’s goals were to make the most efficient dual suspension 29er around, and Niner have definitely got a challenger here. The sort of bikes the Jet 9 RDO is going up against, the Santa Cruz Tallboy Carbon, the Pivot Mach 429 to name a few, are all so advanced that it really comes down to the subtle differences in them, and matching the characteristics of the bike up to the desired feel of the rider and their riding style.
The counter-rotating links of Niner’s Constantly Varying Arc (CVA) suspension design keep chain forces from activating the suspension. This means that your pedalling won’t cause any wasted movement (assuming the rear shock’s ProPedal function is used to tune out any movement caused by your weight moving around). This leaves the suspension free to absorb hits, smooth out the trail and give you maximum traction. Plush suspension that works all the time is Niner’s aim with CVA.
The Niner Jet 9 RDO uses a tapered head tube designed for zero stack headsets (think Chris King InSet), a Press Fit 30 bottom bracket design for minimum weight and maximum stiffness, a Direct Mount front derailleur, 31.6mm seat post and Post Mount rear brake with clearance for a 185mm rotor and massive 2.5” tyres. Shift cables are routed internally to protect them from the elements.

Introducing the Jet 9 RDO, Niner’s first carbon full suspension frame. The swooping curves and strong lines of this frame began with testing data based on our own and competitor’s products, helping us to determine baseline tube shapes and thicknesses for best performance. Applied to a set of design parameters, this data also drove our targets for strength, stiffness and damping characteristics. The result - an aesthetically striking form whose curves are functionally derived.
Next, we employ the data referenced above in our robust R&D program - computer modeling, physical prototype testing (both in-house and at independent testing facilities), and hours of ride testing under our 10 highly skilled and abusive test riders. This aggressive approach helps us to produce a carbon monocoque frame that far exceeds CEN safety standards and for which we are proud to offer our C5 Carbon Warranty (five years).
